Glossary
Disk Space (MB)
Used to store everything related to your website such as
your regular html files, images, multimedia files,
anonymous ftp files, POP mail messages, cgi-scripts and
any other files that make up your website.
E-mail Addresses
These are your email mail boxes in our server that can
be accessed directly to retrieve your mail using such
programs as Eudora, Outlook Express, and Netscape Mail.
Each POP3 account has its own password to ensure privacy.
You will be able to check your email anywhere around the
world where you have access to the Internet.
Domain Name (www.yourname.com)
Basically an easy to remember internet address in plain
alphabet which computers will translate into an ugly IP
address which is a long set of numbers. e.g. globeint.com
and .com A more formal definition is below:
"An addressing construct used for identifying and
locating computers on the Internet. Domain names
provide a system of easy-to-remember Internet addresses,
which can be translated by the Domain Name System (DNS)
into the numeric addresses (Internet Protocol (IP)
numbers) used by the network. A domain name is
hierarchical and often conveys information about the
type of entity using the domain name. A domain name
is simply a label that represents a domain, which is
a subset of the total domain name space. Domain names
at the same level of the hierarchy must be unique,
for example there can be only one com at the top level
of the hierarchy, and only one netsol.com at the next
level of the hierarchy." from InterNIC.
Each of our web sites comes with its very own domain name
that you decide. So, for example, the name of the web site
might be "www.yourname.com". A true domain is when you
get your very own unique IP address on the web server. Many
hosts offer 'fake virtual' domain accounts, which means
they fool most browsers into redirecting themselves to the
correct directory on the server. This method only works
with certain browsers, is not full featured and is not a
professional solution.
Domain Name Registration
In order for visitors to find your website using the
domain name of your choice, you need to do two things,
both of which are handled by GlobeInt.com Inc. First, you
need to reserve your domain name with InterNIC. Second
you need to provide InterNIC with the nameserver of your
domain name.
If you are not yet ready to have a website but want to
reserve just the name, GlobeInt.com Inc. can handle that
as well. This is a good idea since domain names are going
fast. Goto our domain registration page.
Unique/Static IP Address
Each account comes with a static IP address. A static IP
address means the IP address (the number of your site)
never changes. Some hosting companies use dynamic IP
addressing, which means the IP number is different each
and every time you connect to the server or they have
several domains use 1 IP address. A static IP address
provides your site with a never-changing solid address,
which allows you to use it when FTPing files, or pinging
your site, etc. A static IP allows you to have a true
domain name.
Auto Responders
An autoresponder replies to all incomming email sent to
that emailbox using a prewritten reply email. The domain
owner can set an autoresponder on any emailbox on their
GlobeInt.com domain. Using the GlobeInt.com Email
Administrator Interface the domain owner can add, edit
and delete autoresponder text anytime 24hrs per day 7 days
per week, and changes take effect immediately! This can
be a powerful marketing tool and a great way to let your
email correspondants know you got their message.
Email Forwarding
Email can be forwarded into any and all or your email
boxes to any valid email address on the internet. It is
simple to put a forwarding address on any email box by
using the BestHost Email Administrators interface, which
you can use anything 24hrs a day 7days a week, and the
changes you make take effect immediately.
e.g. X sends an email to webmaster@yourname.com. Our
server receives the mail and immediately forwards it to
you@yourisp.com.

of contacts in a very efficient manner. You can manage
the mailing list through the control panel.
Data Transfer
This is the amount of network traffic related to your
domain. Each time a web page, image, audio, video, and
other elements of your website is accessed by your
visitor, traffic is generated. Our daily data transfer
allowance is set to unlimited, to give our customers
one more benefit and reduce a possible cost to have a
presence on the Internet.
Secure Server (SSL)
One method of ensuring that information entered through
your website is protected from preying eyes. Information
submitted via a secure form is sent to the server in an
encrypted mode. Most commonly used for credit card
transactions. In order to perform secure transactions on
the web using https://yourdomain.com you need a hosting
company that will support SSL. We use Apache-SSL on all
of our servers.
FTP Accounts
Used to up and download your website to and from our
server to your computer. You have unlimited access to
your account 24 hours a day 365 days a year to set up
and maintain your web site.

via ftp without a password. It is disabled by default.
Weekly Backups (Tape)
Our servers are backed up daily on high-capacity data tapes
that retain a full image of our server drives in the
unlikely case of a drive problem. Restoring old data is
also available for a small fee.
FrontPage 98/2000 Extensions
The FrontPage 98 is a "web editor" from Microsoft, Inc.
If you have FrontPage and wish to use its web creation and
publishing features to assist in your web design simply let
us know and your domain will be FrontPage Extensions
enabled.
Using Microsoft® FrontPage® 98
Goto FrontPage Explorer
File | Publish FrontPage Web
Click on More Webs
Type in your IP address (64.xxx.xxx.xxx) or yourdomain.com
Type in username/password
Using Microsoft® FrontPage® 2000
Open FrontPage2000
File | Publish Web..
Type in "http://your_ip_address or http://yourdomain.com
Type in username/password
This shouldn't prompt you for ftp server but rather connect
to your root server directly. In fact if it asks for ftp
server, that means that your FrontPage extensions are
corrupted. In this case, you would need to backup all your
files, and ask us to reinstall your FrontPage extensions.
Once the reinstall is complete, you will be informed by us.
At this point, you can upload your files again using the
method described above.
Full CGI-BIN with preconfigured
scripts installed
Common Gateway Interface -- A set of rules that describe
how a Web Server communicates with another piece of software
on the same machine, and how the other piece of software
(the "CGI program") talks to the web server. Any piece of
software can be a CGI program if it handles input and output
according to the CGI standard.
Used to supplement basic HTML to make your website more
interactive and functional. e.g. hit counter, guest book,
order form, and etc. You as our customer have free access
to our library of CGI scripts that will enhance your
website. All of our plans come with its own local cgi-bin
to store custom cgi scripts that you may have written or
found else where on the web.
Usually a CGI program is a small program that takes data
from a web server and does something with it, like putting
the content of a form into an e-mail message, or turning
the data into a database query.
You can often see that a CGI program is being used by
seeing "cgi-bin" in a URL, but not always.
Your own CGI-BIN
We encourage development of highly interactive, successful
sites. For your site to be truly interactive you need to be
able to run computer programs in your own cgi-bin. Also, see
Full CGI-BIN with preconfigured scripts
installed.
Telnet (SSH)
Many users are not at all familiar with telnet and just
as many do not need to use it. Telnet allows you to get
a shell on our Linux servers. The implementation of telnet
that we use is called SSH. To use telnet (SSH), we require
the user to send us a fax with a copy of their photo ID
requesting SSH. Users also need an RSA Key entered in
the control panel in order to access it. We also require
the user to use SSH software.
Password Protected Pages
You can use the control panel to specify which users are
allowed to access certain pages on your site. When
visitors click on a certain URL, they are requested to
enter a username and password which you manage through the
control panel.
Control Panel
Gives you the capability to manage all aspects of your
account in order to make the best use of your options. By
the click of a mouse, you can administer your webspace,
your e-mail accounts, your directories, your cgi-bin, and
all the special features that we offer you, such as site
statistics and shopping carts. You can even add additional
features to your account right when you need them.
Guestbook
Cybercash Support
Cybercash is an online credit card processor. If you
register with them, you can then install the local config
for your domain on our servers with the Control Panel.
Shopping Cart Program
Keeps track of what your customers have ordered on-line
as they add and remove items from their virtual "shopping
cart." When the customer is ready to check out, the
program tallies the order for your customer to review. If
the customer decides to submit the order, the program will
email the order information to the email address of your
choice and a "receipt" to your customer.
Page Access Counters
Our very slick looking access counters can be installed on
as many pages as you choose at no extra charge.
Perl, C, SH, Java, Python
We have enjoyed being the clear choice for computer
programmers building web sites. For this reason, we always
give programmers the most recent versions of the hottest
programs needed to build their web applications.
Pine, Pico, Joe
A program that allows you to check your e-mail from a
terminal machine. This is a UNIX program and you need
login to your account using SSH or Telnet.
Cron Tab
A UNIX program that allows you to schedule tasks to be
performed at specific time and day.
Form to E-mail
Our special form to e-mail program takes the contents of
a form submission and e-mail's you the results to the
address you specify.
Search Engine
In the control panel you can specify which directories you
want searchable by our high powered WAIS index and search
utility. You can then provide users with lightning fast
content.
MySQL/mSQL database support
A database engine used for accessing database. We have
support for creating a simple searchable database. A more
complex database-website interface requires custom
programming. More information on mSQL can be found at
http://www.hughes.com.au
or http://www.msql.com.
More information on MySQL can be found at or
http://www.mysql.com
MySQL is our GNU database of choice. We develop all of our
own products with MySQL or Oracle. We encourage all mSQL
and postgresQL users to migrate to MySQL.
mSQL database support
See MySQL/mSQL database support.
PHP 3.0
Not only do we provide you with PHP support, but the
majority of our system tools and design projects are done
by our staff in PHP. PHP is compiled as a module with
MySQL, gdbm, and gd support.
Real Audio/Video
Real Networks' RealAudio/Video system is a client-server
based, meaning both the browser and the server must have
RealAudio/Video components for it to work, streaming
audio/video delivery system for the Internet. You can
create and deliver audio/video-based streaming multimedia
content through the Internet to audiences worldwide. We
include step-by-step instructions for including
RealAudio/Video in your Web pages.
We do not have a Real Audio/Video server. However, we do
support Real Audio/Video streaming for no extra charge.
When Real Audio/Video first came out, it required an
audio/video server to be installed on the web server. This
was because Real Audio/Video wanted to charge for each
"stream'" or visitor. But soon people started
writing competitive audio/video streaming technology that
didn't require a special server. So, to compete, Real
Audio/Video now does not require a server, and you can
even use their free tools to create streaming audio over
the Internet.
Real Video
We support Video streaming with the Real Video Mime type
as explained above.
